Don’t Leave Treasure Buried… Use A Handheld Pinpointer Metal Detector
There is an old Civil War battlefield near where I live and every once in a while I like to take a walk through it with my metal detector to see if I can find any artifacts, jewelry, coins, or other metal objects from that era. I have found a few things. Some Confederate coins, belt buckles, union buttons, and even small pellets. However, I realized I was leaving a lot of treasure on the ground when a friend of mine came over with a handheld pinpointer metal detector. He was finding things in places I have been over several times over the last few years. He once even found a few coins that he sold for over $3,500.
I wasn't really against handheld pinpointer metal detectors, but didn't think there was much use of having one since I already owned an expensive, full sized model that had plenty of bells and whistles. But, seeing my friend come over and begin cleaning up the field with his pinpointer detector, I quickly changed my mind.
Advantages of a Handheld Pinpointer Metal Detector
As I dug deeper into why my friend carried around the handheld detector I came to the conclusion that not only was he finding more than I was, but he was also a little bit smarter and faster than I was.
Handheld devices are smaller. That means they don't weigh as much and you can take them into places you wouldn't a full sized metal detector.
Handheld pinpointers can be slowly worked over an exact area to locate smaller objects easier than a larger model.
Handheld detectors can be adjusted so that the sensitivity is enough to find those smaller objects even when the larger detector missed them.
Handheld pinpointers can be used as a probe in the ground to get a greater depth than regular metal detectors.
Some handheld pinpointers can even tell what type of material the object is when the probe touches the object.

Leaving Treasure Behind
I was sold on a handheld pinpointer. I actually bought a Compass Automax pinpointer with a 10" probe for about $120.00. Immediately after buying it I went out into the field again to see what treasures I could unearth.
Within about 20 minutes I found two silver coins that I had passed over three weeks before and two bullets from the Civil War era. I was pumped! Since then, while I still take my larger metal detector, I never leave home without my handheld pinpointer. No matter where I am I can always manage to get find a little bit extra in a little less time.
